Visit to the Council Houses & Mayor's
Parlour - Derby 10th February 2009
The tour starts in the Mayor's reception room where you
get the first taste of the art deco and glamour of the trophy's that fill
the room.
We move on to the council chamber where we sit where the
councilors would sit and
hear of the workings of the council and the
significance of the mace and the ceremonial sword.
Next we move to the Mayor's Parlour where we see the
unique oak wooden paneling,
the desk from the 1500's and the various trophies and gifts.
We even got to meet our very own mayor, but sadly not the real one.
The council house looks like most brick
built buildings of the 1920's from the outside and does not invite you in,
but on the inside it was an Aladdin's cave of Art-Deco design filled with
treasures of beauty and age. The history was interesting and the evening
gave all a really good insight into the working of the local council and
Mayor.
